We are happy to announce that we have started working with our first client in the Walla Walla AVA, Mackey Vineyards. They acquired and began renovating the formerly ailing vineyard in 2007, and today are dedicated to producing French-style wines.
Mackey Vineyards is known for its bold Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah. They have received excellent scores in the past, including a 92 from Paul Gregutt, and a 94 at the 2012 Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Awards.
Our project will focus on website enhancement, development of marketing materials, e-mail marketing, social media, and media relations. We are thrilled to partner with them and continue to increase awareness of this fantastic brand.
It’s hard to believe that twelve weeks have passed and that I’m going back to the University of Washington in a week to begin my senior year. But alas, my time as an intern at Trellis Growth Partners is rapidly coming to a close. Here’s what I have been working on in the past month
Product Sell Sheets:
Product sell sheets provide information about a certain wine from a specific vineyard or brand. The information typically includes a product description, tasting notes, technical data, and accolades, a bottle image, along with the mission statement of the vineyard. Product sell sheets were one of my favorite things to work on during my internship because they allowed me to be creative within the guidelines I was given.
Recently, I worked on creating company profiles for a few of our clients. This document is primarily used in our media relations work to provide journalists with a concise overview of a client’s company mission, products, owners and contact information. They make it easy for the media we serve to find the information they are looking for all in one place.
Working with CisionPoint:
CisionPoint, a program used mainly by PR firms, allows its users to compile lists of important media contacts for the purpose of building relationships and pitching targeted stories. I worked to compile a couple of lists of media firms and their employees who write about Beer and Alcohol & Spirits, which we will be using to pitch a new client being announced next month.
Re-Vamping our Client Press Archive Page:
One of the larger projects that I took on in the past month was a complete re-designing of our website’s Client Press Archive page It took a while to come up with a layout that I liked, but in the end, it turned out to be a user-friendly page that is easy to navigate and provides visual “proof” of our agencies strong relationships with writers and ability to pitch stories that increase awareness and demand for our clients’ products. Check it out!
Overall, I had a fantastic experience working with the wonderful women at Trellis Growth Partners this summer. They are extremely knowledgeable about marketing, PR, and the wine, spirits and food industries, and I have learned so much from them in the twelve short weeks that I have been here. I was able to discover something that I am truly passionate about -- designing marketing pieces like product sell sheets and company profiles,. Returning to the UW with this experience will allow me to connect more during lectures and to better understand and apply the information that I am learning in class. This internship has reaffirmed my love for marketing, and I cannot wait to graduate in June and start a career with a marketing firm.

One of Washington’s largest AVAs, the Horse Heaven Hills is home to 25 percent of the state’s vineyard acreage. The region is coveted for its excellent growing conditions, which include ample sunshine and wind for even ripening and disease prevention, respectively. The growers who farm in the Horse Heaven Hills are a special bunch, and over the last decade they’ve produced four wines rated 100 points by Wine Spectator.
When the AVA’s Wine Growers Association approached us in February to support its public relations efforts, we were thrilled. As part of our strategy, we organized a press trip just prior to the organization’s annual July Trail Drive event. We invited a select group of regional media to explore the Horse Heaven Hills AVA with the goal of generating increased awareness and coverage.
